How to Elope at Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs National Park is SUCH a stunning place to elope in San Diego. Keep reading for more info on how to elope here and a little inspiration for your very own San Diego elopement!

Do I need a permit to elope here?

If you are eloping just the two of you with no set up, you don’t need a permit. BUT if you plan anything more then you’ll need a permit! Don’t worry though, I help out with all your permit needs when it comes to eloping anywhere.

When + where is the best time + place in the park to elope?

Sunset Cliffs is truly gorgeous no matter where you go, but it can a little challenging finding a secluded spot. Even though it’s a large area, it’s very crowded. If you don’t know, Sunset Cliffs is one of the most popular spots in San Diego, and thousands of people travel to see this area every year.

It’s no shock that it is such a popular area, but because of that it can be a little harder finding the right area. If you want a time when there are less strangers around and you can feel like you have the place to yourselves, I would suggest a sunrise elopement! You’ll beat the crowds and still get that golden glow. You could also elope on a weekday to cut down on the crowds. That being said, expect more crowds at sunset (I mean they are called the Sunset Cliffs after all).

This Styled San Diego Elopement at Sunset Cliffs

This styled San Diego elopement took place at Sunset Cliffs. The gallery is full of warmth and gorgeous coastal views. California is such a gorgeous state. Anytime I get the privilege of photographing a couple there, it never disappoints. In the gallery below you’ll find all the warmth and coastal views mixed in with a little romance, but first let’s chat about the location!

The Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, CA is a beautiful coastal location to share vows, elope, or even take portraits on your wedding day. The Sunset Cliffs are over 3 miles long, so it’s easy to find a spot that matches your vision perfectly. That gives you options in the unfortunate event that your first choice spot is really crowded and wouldn’t make for the best ceremony or picture spot. Since this is such a popular spot for locals and tourists to visit and watch the sun go down, I recommend either choosing sunrise or a weekday for your San Diego elopement.

Stella + Daniel were the perfect models for this styled shoot. The blues of the ocean in San Diego are hard to beat! It was a blast photographing the radiant love between Stella + Daniel. The Sunset Cliffs are such a quintessential San Diego location, you will be met with moody, misty views in the morning or golden beams of light in the evening.
